CELEBRATING HARMONIC CONVERGENCE

Peruman, Ravi Ravi Peruman, San Francisco, & Hawaii Staff On August 16th and 17th, the 228th and 229th days of this year's orbit around the sun, the Earth shifted. Not physically. Psychically It was 48 mystic hours of Harmonic Convergence, the global fulfillment of a calculation made by the cosmic time-watchers of the Mayan civilization in Yucatan, Mexico, 1,200 years ago.

The calculation stated that, by our calendar, August 16th and 17th would mark the twilight between the end of a 5,000 year materialistic karmic cycle and the beginning of a deeply spiritual cycle. But the Mayan priestly scientists probably didn't suspect that their 1987 cycle-shift would be ushered in by a global celebration involving hundreds of thousands of people all attuning themselves to the psychic presence of mankind. Earth and our galaxy. Gathering at "power points" that form a grid across the planet, celebrants – including many Hindus – held pagan rituals, meditated, sang and danced from Ganges, India, to Stonehenge, England, from Taos, New Mexico, to Nazca, Peru. This collective attunement is theoretically expected to trigger an elevation in consciousness of 550 million other Earth citizens, approximately 10% of the planet's population (coincidentally near the number of Hindus: 650 million).

The Mayans had a beautiful phrase that captures the essence of harmonic convergence: In lake'ch, meaning "I am another yourself." Harmonic convergence is simply blending two or more separate patterns into one co-existing one – like striking one note on a sitar or vina and striking the 5th interval note above it simultaneously. Apply that principle to man's psychic mind and the event of harmonic convergence is understood.

Not only the Mayans, but the ancient Egyptians, the Hopi Indians of North America, the Incas, all told of, in some mythic manner, this cosmic alignment. It would be a time of change for humankind when those so inclined would begin gathering together, recognizing in each other the higher motivations of divine purpose and understanding, coming together in a vibration of harmony. One of the major intents of these two days is a surrendering of self-centeredness to the greater well-being of Earth, certainly echoing a deep understanding in the Vedas about the inseparable identity of man and his planet.

Even the often different astrologies of East and West seemed to harmonize August 16 & 17, as the Sun entered its next fixed constellation, Leo; and Jupiter, known as the spiritual planet, entered the 9th House, indicating an intensification of religious matters. And the moon entered Taurus on Navami, the 9th moon day.

In the constellation Taurus lies the Pleiades, the seven-star cluster containing the sun Alcyone recognized by new and ancient wisdom as a source of universal guidance for the planet. In Hinduism, the seven rishis are associated with the Pleiades. It is often referred to as the central spiritual sun around which our solar system orbits every 25,827.5 years. Pleiadian emissaries are said to have built the Great Pyramid of Giza, the base of which measures 12,913.75 inches (25,827.5 divided by 2), and which has seven chambers and aligns with the seven stars of the Pleiades – as do the great land drawings of Nazca, Peru. To Truth seekers, these facts are among the greatest that herald the cosmic magnitude of the Harmonic Convergence. Significantly for Hindus, in that same constellation the moon entered Krittika, the birth star of Lord Skanda/Muruga, also known as Sanat Kumar, whose legends speak of a Pleiadian origin.

From the perspective of H.H. Sivaya Subramuniyaswami, Saivite Sat Guru, the Harmonic Convergence is gravitating people of like minds together: "It is a time when those living in the higher mind are finding each other, actually creating for the first time two distinct groups of people: those living in the higher chakras and those who are not."

Actress/author Shirley MacLaine calls it a "window of light," allowing access to higher realms of awareness. San Francisco-based New Age teacher/channel Vinayak calls it a time of choice, "a massive shift of consciousness," when the male aggressive, "pushing the river" energies will be balanced into harmony by the passive, female energies of "flowing acceptance," of allowing and nurturing, as in the birth process. This precisely correlates to a yogic balancing of the ida and pingala nadis (psychic nerve channels) in order to achieve awakening of the kundalini spiritual force.

All the signs clearly indicate a turning point in Earth's collective karma and dharma. Mystics point to the Harmonic Convergence as a major energy shift, powerful enough to change the global perspective of man from one of conflict to one of cooperation.
