MUMBAI, INDIA, October 10, 2015 (dna India): It was an eventful evening for the sixth edition of dna Eco Ganesha awards at Y.B. Chavan auditorium on Thursday. As many as 200 entries were received for this year’s theme Beautiful Mumbai. Winners from different categories were felicitated for their innovations and creativity in celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi in an eco-friendly manner. Kalyan resident Rahul Singh Rajput emerged as the winner of Big Eco Ideas contest. His innovative idea of creating a statue out of corn and vegetable powders that will prove useful for the aquatic life after visarjan won him accolades.

The initiative received an overwhelming response in all the three categories — Individuals, Housing Societies and Pandals. There were 10 winners each in the individual and pandal categories while the housing society category had five winners. All winners had used only ecologically sound materials for creating the murthis and decorations, in an innovative and ingenious manner. The message that they conveyed through their work was loud and clear: Save the environment, it is now or never!
