SOUTH AFRICA, April 12, 2022 (The South African): The local community in Chatsworth is mourning the outright destruction of its Hindu Temple, as a result of the harrowing KwaZulu Natal floods. The destructive power of nature is not relenting on the east coast. On Tuesday, the KZN floods continued to wreak havoc across the province – with suburbs of Durban firmly in the firing line. The Umhlatuzana River had earlier burst its banks, which resulted in disaster for this Chatsworth-based Hindu Temple. The Vishnu Temple in Chatsworth had been nestled by the banks of the Umhlatuzana for the past 70 years. The KZN floods of 2017 left it in a bad way, before donations were raised to fix the holy sanctuary. However, the Mother Temple has been completely destroyed, as have a number of recent renovations.

The downpours are set to continue throughout Tuesday afternoon, battering an already rain-ravaged region. The deluges intensified on Monday, with mudslides ripping through residential properties and roads being swallowed by sinkholes. Sadly, it’s feared more damage is to come, with rainfall persisting through the day.
