MANGALURU, INDIA, April 19, 2025 (The Hindu): The decked upper portion of “Brahma Ratha” of Bappanadu Durgaparameshwari Temple at Mulki in Dakshina Kannada collapsed amid a huge gathering of devotees while pulling the chariot during the annual jatre of the temple early on Saturday, April 19. However, there was no casualty and none were seriously injured in the incident which took place between 1.30 a.m. and 2 a.m., sources said, adding that the seat of the chariot was intact. The video clipping of the decorated and illuminated upper portion of the chariot tilting to one side and toppling to the ground went viral on social media. Priests who were seated on the seat of the chariot when the incident took place escaped unhurt, sources said. People ran for safety when the upper portion toppled to the ground. Though the incident created panic among devotees for sometime later the chariot festival continued using another chariot i.e. Chandramandala. The remaining rituals were also continued later.
