LUCKNOW, March 20, 2015 (TNN): Ahead of Cheti Chand festival, falling on March 21, this year, members of the Sindhi community in the city have already made special arrangements. The festival is celebrated by the Sindhi diaspora across the world in honor of the birth of their patron saint Ishtadeva Uderolal, popularly known as Jhulelal.

As Sindhis believe Jhulelal to be the Varunavtaar (incarnation of Lord Varuna), water holds a very important place in the festival. The women prepare the puja thaal for the Baharana Sahib procession with an oil lamp, fruits, coconut, flowers, leaves along with a Deity of Jhulelal which is very carefully submersed in the river praying for the wellness of the community. Considering the day to be the most auspicious, businessmen of the community open new account books, undertake new ventures and even properties are bought and booked around the occasion.
