LAS PALMAS, CANARY ISLANDS, September 14, 2017 (La Provincia, translated from Spanish): The Hindu community of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria received a heavy blow, losing one of its most beloved members, Maharaj Chandru Chetanram Sharma, who died at the age of 85. He was the first priest of the Hindu community. Maharaj Sharma began his spiritual journey at the early age of 10 years in India, distinguished by being very austere and at the same time very human and well balanced, always ready to serve others. He was well versed in the sacred texts in Sanskrit, a brilliant astrologer, yoga instructor, teacher of slokas and Vedic mantras, officiator at innumerable weddings, liturgical acts, baptisms and auspicious events wherever it was required, in the Canary Islands, on the Spanish mainland or any part of the world.

Maharaj Sharma, who died on 5 September, served as a priest to the Hindu community since 1975, a vital, indefatigable and traveling man, always came and went wherever he was needed. His teaching was based on the importance of forgiveness, in the need that the human being has for a mind that is balanced through meditation and that the path to Happiness is through inner peace and the importance of the soul as a source of eternal energy that prevails over the material body.
