UGANDA, June 24, 2018 (Uganda Radio Network): Sanatan Dharam Mandir, (SDM), a Hindu temple in Jinja district is embarking on a campaign to sensitize school going children on the importance of yoga exercises in their daily lives. Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice whose origins are traced to ancient traditions in India and the Himalayan Shamans in Tibet and Nepal. The mind-body practice has become a modern-day symbol of peace, serenity and well-being, and is glorified for its ability to reduce stress.

Prabhat Singh, an official at the Hindu Temple in Jinja, observed that yoga exercises can help to sharpen the memory of school going children if started at an early stage. He says the exercises relax a child’s mind after spending more than 10 hours in a classroom environment. Singh says they are now organizing free yoga classes to learners. Schools will only be required to provide space and time on the timetable for learners to participate in yoga. He was presiding over belated activities to mark the International Yoga Day in Jinja district on Sunday.
