TIRUPATI, INDIA, October 10, 2022 (Deccan Chronicle): The world’s richest Hindu temple, the Lord Venkateswara shrine atop Tirumala, received a record income of approximately US$94.6 million in cash offerings from devotees for the Srivari Hundi in the six months since April this year. The temple trust board had hoped to earn a major chunk of its income from the hundi and made a budgetary estimate of $120.9 million for the 2022-23 financial year. It has, by now, earned nearly 78 per cent of the estimated collections though three more months are left for the completion of the year.

Giving details of the collections, TTD executive officer Dharma Reddy said on Sunday that the hill temple has been witnessing an unprecedented pilgrim footfall ever since the Covid-19 restrictions were eased in March this year. In February, about 1.09 million pilgrims had darshan, and it increased to 1.97 million in March, 2.06 million in April, 2.26 million in May, 2.32 million in June, 2.34 million in July and 2.22 million in August. In September, 2.11 million pilgrims had darshan and 900,000 pilgrims got the tonsure done.
