SOUTH AFRICA, January 16, 2025 (South Coast Herald): During Thai Poosam Kavady, a Hindu religious festival, the Hindu Deity, Lord Muruga, is worshipped. The festival is one of the biggest on the South African Indian festival calendar. The Umbango Sri Siva Soobramoniar Temple invites all to their annual Thai Poosam Kavady festival from February 2 to 16. The flag hoisting will commence on Sunday, February 2, with havan starting at 10:00. Daily obayams (abhishekams) will start at 18:00 on weekdays, and on Saturday, February 8 and 15 at 15:00 and on Sunday, February 9 at 15:00. The temple’s chariot will proceed throughout the districts of Port Shepstone on Sunday, February 9, from 08:30. All Kavady bookings will be open to devotees from flag hoisting day.

Thai Poosam Kavady will be observed on Tuesday, February 11, with havan starting at 08:00. The main Kavady will be held at the temple on Tuesday, February 11, from 07:00. The public Kavady will be held from the NPC grounds on February 16 at 07:00. All devotees who wish to take part in the daily obayams are requested to contact any of the executive members of the temple. Supper and prasad will be served daily.
